Let There Be Light

Genesis 1:1-2 “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”

From the very first verses of Scripture, we are reminded of a powerful truth: never mistake the presence of darkness for the absence of God. Before the first sunrise, before the first breath of man, before order ever came to the chaos the Spirit of God was already moving. Even when the earth was formless and void, He was not idle. He hovered. He stirred. He prepared the stage for His Word.

It wasn’t until verse three that God broke the silence. With just four words, “Let there be light”, everything changed. The darkness had no choice but to retreat. Light flooded what was once empty, and creation began to take shape.

Darkness Today

We don’t have to look far to see darkness covering our world. Violence, division, corruption, fear, confusion; it seems as though the shadows have spread across every corner of our culture. The headlines scream chaos. The moral fabric is unraveling. Our hearts grieve at the condition of our nation and our world.

But there is the good news: darkness is not stronger than God. The same Spirit that moved over the deep in Genesis is moving still. And just as in the beginning, it will take more than human words, policies, or promises to pierce the shadows. What we desperately need is the living Word of God spoken again into the void.

The Power of God’s Word

It was not a strategy that broke the darkness. It was not a debate, an opinion, or an earthly solution. It was the voice of God. When He speaks, light invades. When His Word goes forth, it never returns void (Isaiah 55:11). His Word is truth. His Word is life. His Word still carries the power to transform chaos into creation and despair into hope.

Empty words cannot guide our nation. Hollow assurances cannot anchor our families. Empty chatter cannot heal our communities. Only the eternal, unshakable, undeniable Word of God can.

Let There Be Light

The same God who spoke light into the darkness in the beginning is still speaking today. And He has called His people to carry that Word. Jesus declared, “You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14). If His Word is in us, then we must shine.

This is not the hour for silence. This is the hour for truth. It’s time for the church to rise and proclaim again, “Thus says the Lord.” It is time for us to declare hope where there is despair, peace where there is chaos, and truth where there are lies.

A Final Word

The darkness may look overwhelming, but it only takes one Word from God to change everything. Just as in Genesis, the Spirit is already moving. All it takes is for the Word to be spoken. And when the Word is spoken, the Light still shines, and the darkness cannot overcome it (John 1:5).

So let us stand boldly in this day of confusion and declare God’s Word without hesitation. America may be in darkness, but God’s Word still carries the power to say, “Let there be light.”
